Discovering the Incredible World Around us from the Inside An Art Demonstration with Peter Farrington - Canadian Artist Soon after arriving in Muscat, Oman in 2008 from Canada, Peter Farrington felt the first tinglings of a desire he had not experienced before; painting. With no formal training in the arts, a stranger in a strange land, lacking familiar reference points upon which to attach himself, he resisted this nagging urge to paint, instead focused on adapting to a new job and surroundings. Perhaps driven by a love for the environment and adventure; the influence of his maritime roots, and a natural spiritual inclination, Peter succumbed in 2010 when he bought art supplies and made several paintings of rocks from photographs, including his first ever on canvas. Although the tingling never left, he abruptly stopped. But resistance was futile. In 2012, Peter was talked into joining a group of live artists who painted from their imagination. The images appeared on canvas as if by magic. Most surprisingly were those showing intricate knowledge of the seas; places he had spent little time in, and certainly not the main feature of his now sand infused, date palm covered world. There was always a personal, individual nature to his paintings. Guided by feeling, Peter’s choice of colors, media and subject is never planned or known in advance. His style is decidedly abstract to impressionist as he expresses the many wonders which emerge from someplace within. His approach is consistent. Guided faithfully and openly by feeling, his canvas moves from liquid blobs of formless colors to a kaleidoscope of colorfully overlapping but distinct array of forms. The painting is finished when the feeling disappears. Here participants will see a demonstration of Peter’s painting style; discuss philosophy, nature, and humanity; and learn that each of us has enormous unseen connections with each other and the world as together we co create ocean and heart inspired artworks.
