Did art history overrate Minimalism or are we guilty of ignoring its momentum and purpose? Like it or not, this 'movement' and style did not go unnoticed. Till this day, it shapes our lifestyles in furniture, home accessories, office tools and equipment, clothing, etc. Thus, we cannot ignore the fact that it had become part of our global identity and culture, and that despite all its radicality, Minimalism had become tradition. We will look at examples from Modernism where Minimalist practices were clear in precursor works by famous Abstract Expressionists, Color Field artists, and Hard-Edge painters. We will later witness how these great names in art would begin to influence a younger generation of artists who would wish to produce Minimalist works in pure form in order to protest against the excessively emotional brushstrokes and compositions of their predecessor Modernists and so on...
